“My BLOCk” – the Myeloid Blood Cancer initiative
2019 marks our 55th birthday!
And to celebrate our anniversary, with your help, we want to go BIG with our fundraising, by raising an additional £150,000.
As you know, each year we need to raise over £600,000 in order to support our on-going research projects. This year we are setting ourselves a new exciting target with the hopes of improving patient outcomes and research.
Raising an additional £150,000 would allow us to launch “My BLOCk” – the Myeloid Blood Cancer initiative.
Despite advances in treating other cancers, the standard of care for patients with myeloid malignancies has not changed for decades.
It’s not for lack of effort, but, myeloid malignancies such as AML, MDS and MPN are complex groups of different subtypes of blood cancer with the survival prognosis often being very poor.
‘MY BLOCk’ will use advanced genomic technology to:
- Understand the genetic mutations in myeloid malignancies at diagnosis and during disease
- Identify targeted therapies to inhibit these mutations and more effectively treat the cancer
Results
- Improve patient diagnosis
- Advance research capability
- Improve therapeutic options for patients with myeloid blood cancers
- Will be rolled out to other blood cancer types
- Improve patient outcomes
We will monitor this additional target, by comparing our fundraising with previous years. We will record the monthly monetary amounts, over and above what we achieved in previous years. We have also set up a specific JustGiving page for My BLOCk, for those who would like to donate specifically to this project: www.justgiving.com/campaign/MyBLOCk
Please share far and wide for us.
This research will take place in Northern Ireland, directly benefiting the people of Northern Ireland, but with positive results having a global reach. We are nothing without your support. Let’s work together to improve the outcome for everyone.
